Activities in Southern Oxfordshire

Relaxation takes on many forms and leisure activities provide opportunities really to get to know the area - through walking and cycling trails, arranging to play a round of golf or getting a fishing permit.

Although located less than an hour from London, Southern Oxfordshire is a proper rural retreat of village greens, country pubs and thatched roofs; the ideal spot to recharge batteries.

With the Chilterns Hills and Berkshire Downs as geographical boundaries there is much to explore. So plan your leisure time with as much activity as you can pack into a day - but leave a little energy for a tasty meal and a glass of something chilled - because tomorrow there's another day to fill.

For more ideas why not read "52 things to do… far from the madding beaches” book, which has a vast array of things to do, visit, look at or explore in the county and which will have you coming back to the area time and time again (or every week of the year!).  The book features work from the Vale of White Horse community. In total 50 individuals submitted more than 500 pieces for possible inclusion in the book, including stunning photography capturing the unique atmosphere of Wayland Smithy, descriptive writing about the history of the ancient towns of Abingdon, Faringdon and Wantage, drawings of the Ridgeway, as well as of many of the hidden gems in the Vale’s villages. For information on where you can purchase a copy of the book click here or download a copy here.
