The River Thames dominates southern Oxfordshire and hosts some unusual sights. None more so than the ancient ritual of Swan Upping, which is not to be missed if you happen to be around.

  • Swan Upping - This is the annual census of the mute swan population on the Thames. Come and witness the Swan Census which dates back to the twelfth century, when the Crown claimed ownership of all mute swans. Normally takes place in July.
  • Thames Traditional Boat Rally - A huge 2-day display of the finest-looking traditional boats you can see at one of the most beautiful spots on the River Thames with various trophies and prizes awarded. Normally takes place in July.
  • Beale Park Boat Show - THE inland boat show set around an inland lake leading to the river Thames. It started as a small wooden boats even and is now a showcase of everything aquatic. Normally in June.
  • Peace in The Park - An annual event normally taking place in July which celebrates peace, music, art, meditation and self-awareness. Also an opportunity to discover the Global Retreat Centre.
  • Heritage Open Day - Discover England’s fantastic architecture and culture and explore historic homes that are normally closed to the public. Heritage Open Days is an event for everyone, whatever your background, age and ability. Every September.
